we’re always encouraged to “look forward” instead of “looking back”…but what ever happened to looking down? here’s a rather large collection of my Instagram #lookingdown snaps…have a fab weekend and watch where you walk!

Hi friends. If you’re in my neck of the woods, you might see quite a few cats and dogs falling from the sky…it’s raining that hard! Cape Town really knows how to do a good downpour, that’s for sure. But, I’m indoors now and today I’m very excited to introduce a new column to this blog: Love Local. As you might know, I’m always scouting around for stylish talent to share with you and I really enjoy supporting the creative community, even more so when the creativity comes from a local source, South Africa. So I’m delighted to kick off this Love Local column, showcasing the talent of local artists and designers, with an illustrator from Cape Town who’s work I’ve admired for quite a few years.
Kathy Mellor has a delicate style and creates beautiful line-work illustrations with plenty of charm and whimsy. She works in paper, pen and ink, fabric and thread, uses digital media, and you might know her range of fine napery which is gorgeous in its simplicity. Kathy’s Heirloom & Agapanthus range of tea towels, place mats and napkins features original pen & ink illustrations screen printed using water-based inks onto fine natural fabrics. Super gorgeous! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Kathy’s work and keep posted for the next Love Local installment.
