I’m always ready to pop into a new shop, so when Kristin of Black Betty sent me a mail with news of their new pop-up store The Fleet in the city centre, I knew I just had to visit. Especially as it’s only popping up until the end of November.
The Fleet lives up to its name…situated at the foot of the colourful Bo-Kaap in the heart of the City, this transient space is small but loaded with a fleet of hand selected goods from local and emerging designers.
Providing a temporary central location before the holiday rush, The Fleet plays host to a group of talented South African designers, dubbed The Fleetsters, who are able to gain exposure without the risk of taking on a permanent space. It feels a bit like a cosy nest which is nurturing and safe, allowing designers to grow unencumbered until they’re ready to spread their wings and fly.
You’ll find the work of these Fleetsters at the shop – Lauren Fowler, Lalesso, Bow Peep, Got Processed, Black Betty, The Feat Sock Co., Didzy Designs, Ballo Shades, Touchee Feelee, Postcard Happiness, The Garden Canvas, Paper Tiger, Stockton Goods, Professional Wireworks, Lady Macaron.
Sjoe! No shortage of great local names at this pop-up shop. Find The Fleet at 142 Buitengracht Street, 8001, Cape Town.
