I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … I’m a beach kind of girl. Love the water, love the waves, love the sea breeze. We recently spent a family weekend away in the quaint West Coast seaside town of Jacobsbaai – you might remember one of my previous posts about this beautiful little place. I find that just being close to the sea is energising and invigorating!
We stayed in a beautiful seaside house which was both simple and equipped with everything we needed – just the right combination in a beach house, don’t you think? Cassie, who manages several of the holiday homes in Jacobsbaai, welcomed us like old friends and made sure we were settled in before cycling off on his bicycle back through the little town.
My two boys and a friend were as happy as clams to have a weekend away together where the only mission was to play and catch as many klipfissies as they could … not that many, as it turned out!
The West Coast is quite rugged and a little bit wild, but altogether quite beautiful. Jacobsbaai is rather special because it has little protected bays which are great when you have young children. They can play safely in the water and fish off the rocks out of danger. Bright pockets of indigenous springtime flowers are scattered throughout the area and I was surprised by the wildlife quite literally on our doorstep – when I looked out the window one morning, I startled a shy duiker quietly grazing in the garden, and the sweetest tortoise wandered into the garden and decided to stay after being fed strawberries by the children.
