I love hats. and I love NYC. So when I saw this feature on the home of a modern Manhattan milliner, I knew I had to share it here:
Welcome to the stylish New York City home of Dara Kent-Cobb, Creative Director and principal designer of Preston & Olivia. Dara’s glamorously functional apartment echoes her unique accessory creations for both men and women. Her millinery pieces perfectly marry a classic style with contemporary intuition, inspired by the city they’re created in: modern Manhattan. Dara is quintessentially a Southern girl with modern Manhattan sensibilities who firmly believes that anyone can wear hats!
“My workspace is ever evolving much like my business and my collections. My 2014 mission is to find an art studio so that I will have more space to work and can have a showroom for clients to come see my pieces first hand.”
Dara describes their home as preppy meets modern, meets masculine, meets rustic, with touches of mid century modern and lots of pops of colour. This mimics her personal style – Dara prefers clean modern looks with a fashion forward aesthetic. Dara and her husband try to invest in great pieces that can be accentuated with pattern, texture and fun use of colour.
“I love the rooftop of our building. It’s not the best view in New York, by any means, but it’s definitely a fun spot to go chill out during the day, or have drinks with friends in the evenings. When the weather’s nice, I like to work here on my laptop.”
