Oleg Oprisco – surreal film photography

hello! It’s been quite surreal lately…all these public holidays keep me guessing exactly what day of the week it is! So according to my calendar, it’s Tuesday. It’s not surprising then that the surreal photography by Ukrainian Oleg Oprisco caught my eye.

Oleg creates beautifully surreal images in fairytale-like settings. There’s a strong element of reality to his images but with a deliberate dreamlike disparity. The fact that Oleg shoots using old-school film photography differentiates his work from the realm of others artists who create similar unconventional images using digital technology. Consequently everything you see in Oleg’s photography has been created that way – not digitally manipulated. There’s also a strong editorial feel to his work. I could imagine Vogue’s talented yet unorthodox Creative Director, Grace Coddington, finding inspiration from Oleg’s images.

“I’ve found it ideal to do everything myself. I come up with a concept, create the clothing, choose the location and direct the hair and make-up,” Oleg explains. “Before shooting, I plan the overall colour scheme. According to the chosen palette, I select clothes, props, location, etc. making sure that all of it plays within a single colour range.”
