Recently I met the lovely Maria Magdalena van Wyk – a talented illustrator and one of the Emerging Creatives at the 2015 Design Indaba. She launched her latest range of miniature illustrations 100 Tiny Originals – artworks that celebrate the beauty in the seemingly mundane moments of an ordinary life – at the Indaba and I’m delighted to share her work here today.
There’s something special about minimal pen illustrations using lines of ink. I love Maria Magdalena’s simple aesthetic of finding beauty in the everyday.
find out a bit more about this illustrator in her own words:
This is the humble adventure of my freelance graphic design and illustration career. I am Maria Magdalena van Wyk, an Afrikaans girl from Port Elizabeth where I completed my Bachelor of Technology Graphic Design in 2010. I have been living and working in Cape Town, South Africa, for the past four years. I make a habit of accepting design and illustration challenges as they come along. Using my signature aesthetic I aim to give a visual voice to local and international brands. I seek design simplicity on the other side of complexity.
