When I read that the Paddington home of interior designer Melinda Clarke was inspired by the colour palette of a classic Burberry trench lining, I knew I’d love it even before I laid eyes on the first image.
The renovation of the Victorian home Melinda shares with her husband and two children in the Sydney suburb of Paddington was all about creating a family-friendly space without compromising on style. Initially, the couple were drawn to the sense of grandeur that the house imparted with its high ceilings and original Victorian detailing in the cornices and ceiling roses. The classic layout and spacious rooms with natural light became the perfect canvas for Melinda to create a stylish home with heart.
The grey palette with hints of navy blue and maroon are subtle and find a balance between the masculine and feminine. “Creating a unique space that reflected both my husband and myself and that was true to who we are and to the lifestyle we were living, whilst respecting our homes architectural integrity was a challenge”, considers Clarke. “I spent a long time just thinking about the space, how it would be used, and most importantly how I wanted my family to feel and move within the space.”
