I’m feeling all citrus and stripes today…and a little nostalgic
I’ve been baking up a storm lately, mostly getting my sons involved in making cookies and brownies for lunch box treats, but this lemon loaf cake looks like a delicious recipe to try for my hubby – he loves lemon Madeira cake! I’ve paired it for a Snap! with Garance Dore’s Miami Vice sketch which I just love.
I’ve always baked – I grew up baking and had a peculiar penchant for the most garish of bright green icing to top off my vanilla sponge cake which caused many a raised eyebrow around the tea table. Uh-hum, but that’s another story. But haven’t baked much over recent years because it always ends up being me who has too much chocolate cake for breakfast! So baking now with my boys is a perfect way to introduce them to a skill which is both fun and a part of my own childhood – baking with my mom. I’ll just be sure to keep the green food colouring at the back of the shelf…or, maybe not. Those eye-catching emerald green sponge cakes of my youth might make a come back!
I’m always delighted to dive into the latest issue of Sweet Paul…
This spring issue is even more special because it features our own fabulous Heather Moore of Skinny laMinx & her gorgeous Bree Street shop & studio. Incidentally, Heather has just unpacked a hot shipment of Sweet Paul magazines which are now sizzling on her shelves…the first Sweet Paul’s to be available locally. I can’t wait to pop past and pick up a copy.
I also thought this colour collection of salads was super clever…a beautiful way to think about fresh ingredients and spring time salads…which I will have to remember when spring comes back to the Southern Hemisphere!
And Alica Buszczak‘s illustrative styling has been a favourite of mine for quite a while… this happy spring recipe feature is just beautiful!
This crafty DIY is stylish and practical…love the over-sized wooden beads.
Delicate violets make a symbolic feature which reminds me of the flower meanings of the Victorians…
Delicious cakes, like this olive oil lemon cake, look (and taste, I’m sure) amazing…
