The wind is whipping itself up into a frenzy outside today. I dislike the wind so much – not a very practical thing to dislike if you live in Cape Town – it sets my teeth on edge and spoils my mood. So let’s escape the blustery gale, and gaze instead at the beautiful spring 2015 Alice + Olivia collection. Inspired by the romance of the famed Versailles palace and the modern art installations hosted there, designer Stacey Bendet’s collection is modern, fresh and vibrant.
What do you think so far? Quite spectacular and certainly not for the wallflowers among us. I’m crazy about this Matisse cut-out print on a simple fifties style tea dress. Understated yet bold. Love! Continue after the jump for more deliciousness…
out with the old and in with the new – the diaphanous silhouettes we usually associate with this French brand were replaced with structured cut-out shapes for Vionnet’s autumn winter 2014-15 Paris collection. Personally, I am a devotee of the fluid signature Vionnet pieces from previous seasons, but I guess every brand needs a revival now and then. What did I love from this collection? The felted layers of colour and fabric which created structure and intentional volume for the silhouettes. This season has seen amped-up volume, particularly with coats and jackets. The stylised tulip cut-out shapes lent a floral theme with a contemporary edge, while graphic panels of colour blocking gave the collection a progressive feel. Overall, the old met the new with some boldly liberal pieces.
I am certainly interested to see what Vionnet will present next season!
